A seminar and a handwritten letter together write a vivid footnote for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations.
“You and your delegation are welcome to visit Lahore at any time. I am willing to safeguard this precious intercollegiate friendship for a long time.” This letter of thanks, personally signed by Muhammad Ali, Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Pakistan, crossed the Himalayas and was delivered to Zhou Yushu, President of Inner Mongolia Honder College of Arts and Sciences, on June 29.

The letter originated from an international academic seminar held ten days earlier. On June 19, the “International Academic Seminar Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Pakistan Diplomatic Relations,” jointly hosted by the two universities, was held in Hohhot. Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Ali made a special trip to attend the event and delivered a keynote speech. He said with deep feeling: “This visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations, which makes it particularly significant. As an important bridge carrying forward the friendship between the two countries, universities shoulder a unique mission.”
The letter particularly conveyed a substantive outcome of cooperation: the two universities have officially launched a joint undergraduate education program in Computer Science and Technology. In the letter, Vice-Chancellor Ali emphasized that this is not only in-depth academic cooperation, but also a vivid testament to China-Pakistan friendship in the field of higher education. He also expressed a strong desire to further expand cooperation — while consolidating cooperation in science and engineering, the two sides will join hands to extend into the humanities and social sciences, and promote free mutual visits and mutual learning between faculty and students.
It is understood that the University of the Punjab, Pakistan, was founded in 1882 and is the oldest and largest national comprehensive research university in Pakistan. The partnership between this century-old renowned university and a university in Inner Mongolia marks that China-Pakistan educational cooperation is moving from framework agreements to concrete implementation, and from a single discipline to diversified integration.
In the letter, Vice-Chancellor Ali fully affirmed the educational level and the demeanor of faculty and students at Inner Mongolia Honder College of Arts and Sciences, and expressed deep gratitude to President Zhou and all faculty and students of the college for their warm reception and full support. At the end of the letter, he extended a sincere invitation — “I am willing to safeguard this precious intercollegiate friendship for a long time.” With these words, he expressed the shared appreciation of educators from both countries for the inheritance of friendship.
