About Us/Inner Mongolia Hongder University of Arts and Sciences, formerly known as Hongder College of Inner Mongolia Normal University, is a full-time private undergraduate institution of higher education approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The university began enrolling undergraduate students in 2008; gained the qualification to enroll international students in 2010; launched dual-degree education in 2016 and was designated as a pilot university for the transformation and development of undergraduate universities in the autonomous region; obtained the qualification for enrolling students in the “College-to-Undergraduate” program in 2017. On March 18, 2020, with the approval of the Ministry of Education (Document No. Jiao Fa Han [2020] No. 16), it was officially restructured into an independent legal entity, becoming the first independently established private undergraduate university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The university currently has four campuses: Main Campus, North Campus, Tali Campus and Yunzhong Campus. The first three campuses are all located in Xincheng District, Hohhot, close to each other, adjacent to Baita International Airport and Hohhot East Railway Station. Surrounded by cultural venues such as Inner Mongolia Museum, Ulanqab Grand Theater and Inner Mongolia Art Gallery, these campuses are located in the cultural center of Hohhot, making the university the closest higher education institution to the People’s Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the People’s Government of Hohhot. Yunzhong Campus is located in Tuoketuo County, Hohhot, serving as the university’s practical teaching base. The university is equipped with advanced teaching facilities and enjoys a beautiful campus environment. It was awarded the title of “Garden-style Unit of Hohhot” by the Hohhot Landscape Bureau in 2016 and a “Garden-like Campus of the Capital City” by the Hohhot Greening Committee in 2020.
In accordance with its talent cultivation orientation and market demands, the university has set up disciplines and majors covering six disciplinary categories: Economics, Education, Literature, Engineering, Management and Arts. It offers 32 undergraduate majors, namely Finance, Insurance, Pre-school Education, Primary Education, Chinese Language and Literature, English, Russian, Journalism, Radio and Television Science, Computer Science and Technology, Network Engineering, New Media Technology, Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Marketing, Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing, Asset Evaluation, Property Management, Public Administration, Elderly Care Service Management, E-commerce, Tourism Management, Tourism Service Education, Radio and Television Directing, Animation, Fine Arts, Drawing, Photography, Visual Communication Design and Environmental Design. Among them, seven majors, namely Pre-school Education, English, Radio and Television Directing, Accounting, Fine Arts, Tourism Management and Engineering Management, have been approved as first-class undergraduate major construction programs in the autonomous region. In addition, the university offers three vocational majors: Journalism and Editing & Production, Editing and Production, and Big Data and Accounting.
Since its founding, adhering to the educational philosophy of “Strive for merits in practice and serve the country via education”, the university has always followed the socialist orientation of running a school, fully implemented the educational principles and policies of the Communist Party of China and the state, and taken “Connotation‑driven safe campus, innovation-empowered growth and pursuit of higher standards” as its guiding ideology for work, achieving leapfrog development. The university has always regarded teaching quality as the lifeline for its survival and development, and formulated a series of rules and regulations to guarantee the central position of teaching in its work. In terms of teaching management, the university strengthens routine teaching supervision through daily class inspections, weekly meetings of department directors and semester teaching evaluations. In terms of student management, it improves students’ comprehensive quality through the “Five Major Programs” of the Communist Youth League, including humanistic quality development, excellence management training, campus civilization construction, social volunteer service and social practice, and strengthens students’ daily management through the “Four-Inspection System”, covering inspections of morning exercises, evening self-study, overnight leave checks and labor education.
Aiming to cultivate application-oriented talents, the university strives to nurture interdisciplinary talents with solid professional foundations, innovative spirit and practical competence. To meet market demands for talents, the university timely adjusts its talent training programs, continuously deepens the reform of the curriculum system, strengthens the cultivation of students’ professional abilities, and improves graduates’ employability and competitiveness. The university currently has more than 19,000 enrolled students. As of 2025, it has cultivated and delivered more than 42,000 graduates, who are well recognized by employers and earn a good social reputation.
The political core status and guarantee supervision role of the Party organization have promoted the sound and rapid development of the university. Since its founding, the university has put forward the guiding ideology of “Three Assurances” and “Three Priorities in Taking the Lead” for Party building work, and regarded Party building as a long-term priority of the university. The “Three Assurances” mean running higher education that satisfies the Party and the government, reassures parents and students, and comforts faculty and staff. The “Three Priorities in Taking the Lead” require that in all work of Hongder University, Party building should take the lead; among private universities in the autonomous region, Hongder’s Party building should rank first; among private universities nationwide, Hongder’s Party building should take the lead.
In recent years, the university has continuously expanded its school-running scale, achieved remarkable educational results, and gained growing social popularity and reputation. It has successively won honors such as “National Advanced Independent College”, “Excellent Private Higher Education Institution in China”, “Safe Campus of the Autonomous Region” and “Advanced Collective in the Education System of the Autonomous Region”. The University Party Committee has been successively awarded titles such as “Advanced Party Committee of Inner Mongolia Normal University”, “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of the Autonomous Region” and “Demonstration Site for ‘Six Good’ Party Organizations in Social Organizations”.
