Pakistan Studies/Professor Tang Jun from Hongde College Pakistan Research Center Participates in International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction and Economic Development Cooperation
On May 29, 2025, the Third International Conference on the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor was successfully held in Wuhan, China. Organized by the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor Research Center of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), the conference focused on the theme:
“Research on Disaster Prevention, Mitigation, Emergency Response, and Economic Development Cooperation among Belt and Road Countries.”
The conference brought together experts, scholars, and representatives from government agencies, universities, and research institutions from China and Pakistan to discuss how scientific cooperation and regional collaboration can improve disaster resilience and promote sustainable economic development.
Professor Tang Jun, Director of the Pakistan Research Center at Inner Mongolia Hongde College, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a special academic presentation.
His participation reflected the active role of Hongde College’s Pakistan Research Center in international studies, regional cooperation research, and academic exchanges between China and Pakistan.
The conference focused on important global challenges related to natural disasters, climate change, emergency management, and sustainable development.
Representatives from major institutions, including China’s emergency management authorities, disaster reduction organizations, earthquake emergency response institutions, as well as Pakistan’s disaster management and investment-related agencies, participated in discussions.
Experts exchanged views on topics such as:
the standardization of emergency management and disaster reduction systems among Belt and Road countries, comprehensive natural disaster risk prevention, regional cooperation mechanisms, and improving emergency response capabilities.
Through academic dialogue and practical experience sharing, participants explored solutions for strengthening disaster preparedness and reducing the impact of natural hazards on economic and social development.
Natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, and extreme weather events have become important challenges affecting many countries along the Belt and Road region.
Both China and Pakistan have extensive experience in disaster prevention and emergency response. Through scientific research, technology exchange, and institutional cooperation, the two countries have explored ways to improve disaster risk management and strengthen regional resilience.
The conference provided an important opportunity for experts from different fields to share research achievements and discuss how technology, data analysis, and international cooperation can contribute to safer and more sustainable development.
During the academic sessions, scholars from China and Pakistan discussed economic cooperation and development opportunities under the Belt and Road framework.
Professor Tang Jun delivered a presentation titled:
“The Strategic Significance of the First Phase of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor in Sindh Province from a Socioeconomic Perspective.”
In his report, Professor Tang conducted a comprehensive analysis of Sindh Province’s role in CPEC development, focusing on its economic characteristics, strategic location, development achievements, and future opportunities.
As one of Pakistan’s most economically important provinces, Sindh plays a significant role in national development. Home to major cities such as Karachi, the province serves as an important center for finance, industry, trade, and maritime connectivity.
Professor Tang’s research examined how CPEC-related cooperation has influenced regional development and explored future possibilities for strengthening economic links, industrial cooperation, and regional connectivity.
The presentation provided valuable academic perspectives for understanding the relationship between infrastructure development, economic growth, and regional cooperation.
Sindh occupies an important position in Pakistan’s economic landscape. Located in the southeastern part of the country, the province has a long history of trade, cultural exchange, and economic activity.
With its coastline along the Arabian Sea, major ports, industrial centers, and transportation networks, Sindh has significant potential in trade, logistics, manufacturing, and investment cooperation.
The development of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor has created new opportunities for infrastructure improvement, industrial growth, and regional connectivity.
Research on Sindh’s role in CPEC contributes to a deeper understanding of how regional development strategies can support economic transformation and strengthen cooperation between China and Pakistan.
The participation of the Pakistan Research Center at Inner Mongolia Hongde College in this international conference demonstrates the institution’s growing academic influence in Pakistan studies and international cooperation research.
Through continuous research, academic exchange, and policy-oriented studies, the center focuses on important topics related to Pakistan’s economy, society, security, culture, and China–Pakistan relations.
The center also provides research support and intellectual contributions for understanding regional cooperation and promoting practical collaboration between China and Pakistan.
Participation in international academic platforms allows researchers to exchange ideas with experts from different countries and further improve the quality and international visibility of Pakistan-related studies.
