Pakistan Studies/On May 24, 2025, the 2025 National Academic Symposium on Pakistan Studies was successfully held at Sichuan University. The symposium was organized by the university’s Pakistan Research Center and brought together more than 50 scholars and experts from over 30 academic institutions specializing in Pakistan studies across China.
Hashmi attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote address. During the event, Ambassador Hashmi spoke highly of the contributions made by Chinese universities and research institutions in promoting academic cooperation, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding between China and Pakistan.
The symposium provided an important platform for scholars to exchange ideas on Pakistan-related research, explore new areas of cooperation, and discuss how academic cooperation can contribute to the continued development of China–Pakistan relations.

Scholars exchanged views on how academic research can better support practical cooperation between China and Pakistan, contribute intellectual resources to regional development, and strengthen the foundation of the China–Pakistan friendship.
The discussions reflected the growing importance of Pakistan studies as an interdisciplinary field involving international relations, economics, history, culture, security studies, and regional development.
During his speech, Ambassador Hashmi specifically highlighted the research achievements of Inner Mongolia Hongde College, particularly the academic work of President Zhou Yushu titled:
“Research on the Ancient Seal Script Symbols of Harappa and Mohenjo-daro: Exploring the Origins of Writing Systems in the Indus Valley Civilization.”
Ambassador Hashmi emphasized that the publication provides valuable academic insights into the ancient civilization of the Indus Valley and contributes positively to cultural understanding between China and Pakistan. He introduced the research achievement to participating scholars and recommended the work as an important contribution to the study of Pakistan’s ancient history and cultural heritage.
The research focuses on the mysterious symbols found on ancient seals from Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, two of the most important archaeological sites of the Indus Valley Civilization. These ancient cities represent one of the earliest urban civilizations in human history and are significant cultural links between ancient South Asia and the broader civilizations of Asia.
Through historical research and academic exploration, the study provides new perspectives for understanding the origins, development, and cultural significance of early writing systems in the Indus Valley region.

During the symposium, Professor Tang Jun, Director of the Pakistan Research Center at Inner Mongolia Hongde College, represented the college and delivered a special presentation titled:
“Analysis of Pakistan’s Security Situation and Response Strategies for Chinese Enterprises.”
Combining recent data analysis and practical research, Professor Tang examined the security environment affecting international cooperation and provided suggestions for Chinese enterprises operating in Pakistan.
The presentation focused on improving understanding of local conditions, strengthening risk awareness, and developing effective approaches for companies engaged in international cooperation.
The research offered valuable academic and practical references for enterprises seeking to better understand Pakistan’s investment environment and enhance cooperation efficiency.
