Pakistan Studies/An online reception celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan was successfully held on May 21, 2021. The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and brought together senior government officials, political representatives, military leaders, scholars, media professionals, business representatives, overseas Chinese communities, international students, and friends from various sectors of society.
The reception provided an important platform to review the remarkable journey of China–Pakistan relations over the past seven decades and to look ahead toward future cooperation. Participants highlighted the deep friendship between the two countries, the achievements of bilateral cooperation, and the shared commitment to further strengthening ties in the years ahead.
The event demonstrated the strong foundation of China–Pakistan relations, which have developed through continuous diplomatic engagement, mutual support, economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and close connections between the two peoples.
During the reception, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong conveyed greetings and congratulations on behalf of Chinese leadership and reviewed the development of China–Pakistan relations since diplomatic ties were established in 1951.
Over the past 70 years, China and Pakistan have developed a close partnership characterized by mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. Despite differences in history, culture, and social systems, the two countries have maintained friendly relations and supported each other on issues of shared importance.
The relationship has been widely recognized as an example of long-term cooperation between two developing countries. Through decades of exchanges, China and Pakistan have expanded collaboration in politics, economy, infrastructure, education, science and technology, defense, and cultural communication.
A significant milestone in bilateral relations came in 2015, when Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan elevated the relationship to an all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, opening a new chapter of cooperation.
Economic cooperation has become one of the most important areas of China–Pakistan relations in recent years.
The China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), launched as a major cooperation project under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, has become a symbol of bilateral economic partnership. The project focuses on infrastructure development, energy cooperation, transportation connectivity, industrial cooperation, and regional economic development.
Through CPEC and other cooperation programs, China and Pakistan have worked together to improve transportation networks, strengthen energy infrastructure, and promote investment opportunities.
The development of connectivity projects has enhanced economic links between different regions of Pakistan and created new opportunities for trade, industrial growth, and regional cooperation.
The COVID-19 pandemic became another important moment demonstrating cooperation and mutual support between China and Pakistan.
During the global health crisis, both countries provided assistance and strengthened cooperation in areas including medical supplies, health expertise, and pandemic response.
The two countries worked together to address public health challenges and demonstrated the importance of international cooperation in responding to global issues.
This cooperation further strengthened the friendship between the Chinese and Pakistani peoples and reflected the spirit of mutual assistance during difficult times.
At the reception, Pakistani leaders and representatives expressed their appreciation for the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China.
The President of Pakistan highlighted the historic importance of bilateral relations and praised cooperation between the two countries in various fields. He congratulated China on its achievements in economic and social development and expressed support for continued cooperation under the framework of shared development.
Pakistani representatives emphasized that China and Pakistan have maintained a relationship based on trust and mutual support for many decades. They noted that cooperation in infrastructure, economic development, education, and technology has created valuable opportunities for both countries.
The Pakistani side expressed its willingness to continue strengthening strategic communication, expanding practical cooperation, and promoting closer connections between the two peoples.
Parliamentary cooperation has also become an important component of China–Pakistan relations.
Pakistani parliamentary representatives highlighted the close exchanges between the Pakistani Parliament and Chinese legislative institutions. These interactions have helped strengthen mutual understanding and provided opportunities to share experiences in governance, economic development, and social progress.
The continuation of institutional exchanges demonstrates the broad foundation of bilateral cooperation beyond government-level relations.
Defense cooperation is another important area of China–Pakistan relations.
At the anniversary reception, Pakistani military representatives emphasized the close cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries. Over the years, China and Pakistan have developed communication mechanisms and cooperation programs in defense and security fields.
Military exchanges, joint training activities, and professional communication have contributed to strengthening mutual understanding between the two countries’ defense institutions.
Both sides have expressed their commitment to maintaining regional peace, stability, and cooperation.
Cultural exchange has always been an important part of China–Pakistan friendship. During the anniversary celebration, a documentary reviewing the 70-year history of China–Pakistan relations was presented, allowing audiences to revisit important moments of cooperation and friendship.
The event also featured the release of the music video “Teri Meri Sada Dosti” (“Our Everlasting Friendship”), jointly produced by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and relevant media organizations.
The song was created by Pakistani musician Sahir Ali Bagga and performed together with Urdu-language broadcasters from Chinese media organizations. The musical collaboration received positive attention and became another example of cultural connection between the two countries.
Through music, art, education, and people-to-people exchanges, China and Pakistan continue to strengthen understanding and friendship among their citizens.
The 70th anniversary celebration marked not only a review of the past but also a vision for the future.
As the world continues to experience significant changes, China and Pakistan are expanding cooperation into new areas, including technology, education, agriculture, renewable energy, healthcare, and youth development.
Young people are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of bilateral relations. Through educational exchanges, language learning, cultural programs, and professional cooperation, younger generations can become new bridges connecting the two societies.
The continued development of China–Pakistan relations reflects the importance of long-term friendship, mutual understanding, and shared development.
