Studying abroad is not only an opportunity to acquire academic knowledge, but also a journey of personal growth, cultural understanding, and building lifelong friendships. For Chinese students studying in Pakistan, the experience provides a unique opportunity to explore a different society, deepen their understanding of Pakistani culture, and strengthen people-to-people connections between China and Pakistan.
After spending more than half a year studying in Pakistan, Chinese students from China shared their experiences of academic study, teaching practice, cultural exchange, and personal development. Their time in Pakistan has become a valuable chapter filled with challenges, achievements, and unforgettable memories.
When the students first arrived in Pakistan in October, everything felt new and unfamiliar. The different cultural environment, language atmosphere, and lifestyle required them to gradually adapt. Unlike life at home, where many daily matters could be easily handled with the help of family and familiar surroundings, studying abroad required them to become more independent.
They learned to manage their own daily routines, prepare meals, organize accommodation, complete university procedures, and solve practical problems by themselves. Even small challenges, such as communicating with dormitory staff when appliances needed repair, became opportunities to develop independence, confidence, and problem-solving skills.
Although adapting to a new country was sometimes difficult, these experiences helped the students grow stronger and more capable. Living in Pakistan allowed them to experience a different way of life and understand the importance of cultural adaptability in an international environment.
As part of their overseas study experience, the students participated in Chinese language teaching activities at the university. Entering the classroom with a new identity as Chinese language instructors was both exciting and challenging.
At the beginning, standing in front of students from a different cultural background brought some nervousness. However, with encouragement from local teachers and students, they gradually became more confident and developed their teaching skills.
During Chinese language classes, the students worked carefully to explain vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and practical expressions. They also introduced elements of Chinese culture, helping Pakistani students understand not only the Chinese language but also China’s history, traditions, and modern society.
The teachers found that many Pakistani students showed strong enthusiasm for learning Chinese. Outside the classroom, some students practiced simple Chinese conversations with each other, using Chinese greetings and daily expressions in their interactions. Their enthusiasm demonstrated the growing interest in Chinese language and culture among young people in Pakistan.
Through Chinese language education, the students also became cultural bridges, helping Pakistani learners gain a deeper understanding of China while learning from Pakistani society in return.
In addition to teaching Chinese, the students also attended courses in the English Department as graduate students. One of the courses, related to Pakistani English, was particularly challenging because it involved not only English language studies but also elements connected with Urdu and local linguistic characteristics.
At the beginning, understanding the course content and following lectures delivered at a different pace was difficult. However, instead of giving up, the students actively communicated with their professors and classmates.
Pakistani teachers provided patient guidance, explaining difficult concepts, highlighting key points, and helping students understand important academic materials. Before examinations, teachers reviewed students’ notes, offered suggestions, and encouraged them to prepare with confidence.
Their Pakistani classmates also played an important role. Whenever the Chinese students had difficulties understanding lectures, classmates would patiently explain concepts in English, share their notes, and help them review course materials.
The friendship extended beyond academic support. Classmates organized social activities together, including celebrating birthdays, decorating classrooms, sharing food, and participating in performances. These moments created a warm and welcoming atmosphere where students from different countries could communicate naturally and build strong friendships.
After living in Pakistan for more than six months, the students developed a deeper appreciation for the country and its people. They found Pakistan to be a place with beautiful natural surroundings, a welcoming social atmosphere, and rich cultural traditions.
The kindness and hospitality of Pakistani teachers and students left a particularly strong impression. Whether in the Chinese Department or the English Department, local teachers and students showed great respect, care, and friendship toward the Chinese students.
Through daily communication, classroom interaction, and cultural exchange, the students gradually felt a sense of belonging. Pakistan became more than just a place of study; it became a second home filled with warm memories and meaningful relationships.
The experience also strengthened their understanding of the friendship between China and Pakistan. Education and student exchanges serve as important links between the two countries, allowing young people to communicate directly, share cultures, and develop mutual understanding.
Studying in Pakistan provided the students with more than academic knowledge. It helped them develop independence, confidence, communication skills, and a broader international perspective.
The challenges they encountered became valuable learning experiences, while the friendships they formed became lasting memories. Through teaching Chinese, studying Pakistani culture, and interacting with local communities, they experienced the diversity and richness of international education.
For these Chinese students, Pakistan was not only a destination for overseas study but also a place where they discovered new perspectives, gained personal growth, and built meaningful connections with people from another culture.
As educational exchanges between China and Pakistan continue to expand, more young people from both countries will have opportunities to learn from each other, strengthen friendship, and contribute to deeper mutual understanding.
