Announcement for 2025 Project Applications of the Northern Rock Art Research Base
The Office of the Northern Rock Art Research Base, Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Institutions of Higher Education of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, hereby issues the following announcement on matters concerning the 2025 project application work.
I. Guiding Ideology
To thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China,Combining the characteristics of regional ancient rock art, on the basis of research in disciplines such as archaeology and history, this study integrates folklore, art, anthropology and natural sciences to boost the disciplinary development of rock art studies.
Rock art is of great significance to interpreting the diverse and integrated Chinese civilization. On the one hand, it revitalizes cultural heritage in form; on the other hand, it gives full play to cultural and scientific values.We attach equal importance to basic research and applied research, encourage interdisciplinary comprehensive studies, and effectively leverage the exemplary and guiding role of the special funds of the Rock Art Research Base.The 2025 research projects of the Northern Rock Art Research Base are divided into Key Projects and General Projects.Projects are open to public application. Applicants may choose research topics within the scope below, or formulate self-designed topics based on actual conditions around relevant research contents.

2. Discovery and Research of Rock Art in Different Regions
3. Cultural Studies on Rock Art
(II) General Projects
1. Research on Graphic Symbols of Chinese Rock Art
2. Comparative Research on Rock Art and Similar Unearthed Cultural Relics
3. Research on Historical Issues Related to Rock Art
III. Application Requirements
(I) Upon the release of this project announcement, applicants shall complete the Application Form and Project Design and Argumentation Loose-leaf Form for application.
(II) The applicant’s institution shall have standardized financial management systems and be able to issue official tax invoices after project approval (the payee shall be the applicant institution).
(III) Project principals shall hold a master’s degree or above.
(IV) Applicants may independently determine research perspectives and design self-titled projects in accordance with the directions specified in these guidelines.
(V) Each person shall only apply for and undertake one research project.Published research achievements are not eligible for application.Researchers who have obtained funding for provincial/ministerial or higher-level projects with identical or similar topics and contents shall not apply.
(VI) Acceptable final achievements include: research reports, monographs, and academic papers.
IV. Research Requirements
(I) Achievements of Key Projects shall be written research reports or monographs.The full text of a research report shall be no less than 15,000 words.A monograph refers to a formally published work retrievable via CIP data, with no less than 80,000 words.For General Projects, research papers must be published in official academic journals.
(II) All research reports, monographs and papers must be original unpublished works free of intellectual property disputes.The research institution and the author shall bear full textual responsibility.
(III) Research achievements published in People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, Qiushi, Red Flag Manuscripts, or authoritative professional journals, or those approved by leading officials at or above the sub-provincial level in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, shall be exempted from expert appraisal upon project closure.
(IV) When research reports, monographs and papers are published, the base project name, project approval number and the author’s institutional affiliation must be clearly indicated.
V. Project Quota, Funding Standard and Time Limit
A total of 3 Key Projects will be funded this year, with a grant of 10,000 RMB per project.A total of 5 General Projects will be funded, with a grant of 5,000 RMB per project.Research institutions and individuals shall provide official tax invoices.
The research period is one year, and the specific deadline shall be subject to the signed contract.
All project funds shall be managed in accordance with the Administrative Provisions for Fund Use of the Northern Rock Art Research Base.
VI. Application Procedures
(I) Application Materials
All required documents, including the Application Form and Project Design and Argumentation Loose-leaf Form, are detailed in Attachment 1 and Attachment 2.
Submission materials: 2 copies of the Application Form and 3 copies of the argumentation loose-leaf form, together with electronic versions. All documents shall be printed double-sided on A3 paper and bound at the central fold. No personal information of the applicant shall appear on the loose-leaf forms.
(II) Applicants shall carefully verify all filled information, provide clear comments, and affix the official seal of their institution.
(III) The Northern Rock Art Research Base will organize expert review, re-examination and public notice. If no objection is raised during the publicity period, the applicant shall confirm the undertaking unit and sign the research project contract.
(IV) All verified paper application documents shall be submitted to the Office of the Northern Rock Art Research Base, and electronic files shall be sent to the email address: bfyhyjjd@163.com. The application deadline is October 20, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.
