Pakistan Studies/On July 14, 2023, a series of training lectures under the “Understanding China” Scholarship Program was successfully held for its inaugural cohort of recipients in Pakistan. The program is designed to enhance academic exchange and deepen international understanding of China’s development, history, and contemporary society.
At the invitation of the organizers, Professor Tang Jun, Director of the Pakistan Research Center at Inner Mongolia Honder College of Arts and Sciences, delivered an online keynote lecture titled “Deng Xiaoping Theory and Reform and Opening-Up.” The lecture formed part of the program’s structured academic training series for young scholars.

During the lecture, Professor Tang Jun provided a systematic and comprehensive overview of Deng Xiaoping’s life experiences and the historical background that shaped his thinking. He further elaborated on the formation, development, and historical significance of Deng Xiaoping Theory, highlighting its important role in China’s modernization process and economic transformation.
The presentation was delivered in an accessible and engaging academic style, allowing participants to gain a clearer understanding of key concepts related to China’s reform and opening-up policies. The lecture stimulated strong interest among attendees and encouraged active reflection and discussion among the young scholars.

It is reported that the launch ceremony of the “Understanding China” Scholarship training program was held on July 6 at the University of Agriculture, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The event was attended by Ms. Pang Chunxue, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in Pakistan, who delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of academic exchange and educational cooperation.
The training program focuses on contemporary China, including themes related to China’s modernization process and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It aims to provide young Pakistani scholars with an important platform to systematically learn about China’s development experience and social progress.
The “Understanding China” Scholarship program is expected to play a significant role in strengthening educational collaboration, promoting mutual learning, and supporting academic dialogue between China and Pakistan. It also serves as an important initiative for fostering long-term friendship and deepening cultural and intellectual exchange between young scholars from both countries.
Through such programs, both sides continue to contribute to building a closer China–Pakistan academic community and advancing shared development in education and research cooperation.
