On September 14, the Pakistani Embassy in China, the Pakistan Cultural and Exchange Center, and the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University jointly held the launch of the new book The Indus and the Yangtze: A Journey of Two Rivers from One Origin in Beijing. It is reported that The Indus and the Yangtze: A Journey of Two Rivers from One Origin was co-edited by Professor Li Xiguang, former Executive Vice Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University, and Professor Zahid Anwar, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar. It is presented in three versions — English, Urdu, and Chinese — and systematically elaborates on the historical connections between the civilizations of the Indus River basin and the Yangtze River basin.

His Excellency Ambassador Hashmi of Pakistan to China stated in his remarks that China-Pakistan relations have grown ever stronger over time, that academic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges are of great significance to deepening the friendship between the two countries, and he called for further strengthening collaboration in areas such as university cooperation, faculty-student exchanges, and language learning. During the event, the “Oral History of Karakoram Highway Builders” project, research on ancient routes in the Yarkant River Valley, and related documentary works were also presented.

“Our college’s Pakistan Research Center was established in 2014 and has long been dedicated to research in areas such as China-Pakistan educational cooperation and exchange, Pakistan country studies, and the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Being invited to attend this event is another concrete practice of the Center’s continued deepening of external academic exchanges, and it will help further expand the college’s academic network and cooperation space in the field of China-Pakistan people-to-people exchanges,” said Wang Ni, a researcher at our college’s Pakistan Research Center.
